CARBON MONOXIDE: THE SILENT THREAT—PROTECT YOUR HOME AND FAMILY

Often called the invisible killer, carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely. In the home, heating and cooking equipment that burn fuel are potential sources of CO. Vehicles or generators running in an attached garage can also produce dangerous levels of CO.

CO poisoning can occur from small exposures over time or large doses in a short period. In 2010, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 80,100 non-fire CO incidents—an average of nine calls per hour.

Stay Safe with These Carbon Monoxide Safety Tips:

Taking these simple steps can save lives. Check your CO alarms today and ensure your family is protected.
