Plans & Permitting
Overview
Per the adopted Fire Code and Wildland-Urban Interface Code, certain construction, operations, and special events requires a permit from the Fire District.
Please review Operational Permits and Fire Protection Systems for more information. Per the adopted Fire Code, existing fire protection systems shall not be modified without permit from the Fire District.
NLTFPD Resolution 22-01 sets service fees for both construction and operational permits. Below are the permit applications and the permitting process.

Advisory: the listed applications do not cover all construction and operations required to be permitted by the adopted Fire Code and Wildland-Urban Interface Code. If unsure of a required permit, please reach out to the Fire Inspector.
Washoe County Note: many operations and construction may also require a Washoe County permit in addition to a Fire District permit.
Submitting Plans
Procedures for submitting plans and fee collection are as follows:
Submitting
- A completed application (above) and a complete set of plans shall be submitted by email to:
- Once a complete set of plans (requirements below) have been submitted, an invoice will be sent out to the applicant via PayPal. This invoice can be paid directly through PayPal.
- All fees must be paid prior to permit issuance.
- Please allow 10 business days for the review to be completed.
- The Fire Inspector/Plans Examiner will reach out to the applicant directly for any questions/corrections.
Submittal Requirements
Operational Permits (i.e. Special Events, Outdoor Assemblies, Interior Exhibits, etc.)

- Scope of work letter
- Providing details and timelines of the event
- Providing details on typical fire code requirements
- Site plan or floor plan (if applicable)
- Detailing typical fire code requirements
- Detailing site activities
Construction Permits/Reviews
- Fire sprinkler and fire alarm plans
- Shall be designed by a holder of a NICET Level II certification (or equivalent) AND hold a valid license as a professional engineer under NRS 625.
- Plans shall follow all requirements of associated NFPA standards.
- Per Resolution 18-1, NFPA 13D systems are not permissible in NLTFPD.
- Installers shall be licensed with the Nevada State Fire Marshal.
- Special hazard suppression system plans (Pre-engineered/Engineered Fixed Extinguishing Systems):
- Shall be designed by a holder of a NICET Level II certification (or equivalent) AND hold a valid license as a professional engineer under NRS 625.
- Pre-engineered system plans do not need NICET certification.
- Plans shall follow all requirements of associated NFPA standards.
- Installers shall be licensed with the Nevada State Fire Marshal.
